Immunity Boosting Shot

This immunity drink is packed with goodness to give you a warm and relaxing start to your day. Not only do the rich ingredients strengthen your immune system during cold and flu season, but they can be added to your daily routine to detoxify your body every morning. The recipe is super simple and can be consumed as a tea if you add more water to the mixture.

I have grown up being given a variety of spices and herbal concoctions for almost every ailment. After experimenting with my own combinations I believe that this drink truly helps me to keep healthy during cold and flu season as it helps to ease a sore throat and soothe the symptoms for a common cold. The ingredients are packed full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties which are sure to provide your immune system with a boost!

Ingredients:
Makes 5 servings

·     2 tbsp. turmeric (use turmeric root where possible but powder works just fine too!)
·     1 inch ginger chopped finely
·     2 tbsp. honey
·     ¼ tsp red chili flakes
·     1 tsp pepper
·     ¼ tsp cloves
·     2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar with ‘the mother’
·     Juice of 1 lemon
·     Juice of 1 orange
·     1 cup of freshly boiled water (dilute more to make a tea instead of the concentrated shot)

Method:

1)   Using a spice grinder or pestle and mortar, grind the spices to a coarse powder
2)   In a separate pan add the chopped ginger, honey, apple cider vinegar and fresh orange and lemon juices
3)   Add your spice mixture to the pan and stir the mixture to ensure everything is evenly combined
4)   Pour in the freshly boiled water and stir again until all the spices and ginger are evenly dispersed
5)   Allow the mixture to cool to a lukewarm temperature, pour into your vessel of choice and enjoy!

The immunity shot is best consumed warm and on an empty stomach at least an hour to thirty minutes before your breakfast. However, during warmer months you can make it the night before and refrigerate it so it can be consumed first thing in the morning. You can also refrigerate any leftovers to enjoy the next day for up to 3 days.

I really hope this recipe provides some comfort during this difficult period- stay safe everyone!

  1. We really need this immunity booster now. This is so loaded with the goodness of vitamin C coming from citrus and ACV has always been a potential alkaliser for the body ph. Sounds good, though might not try with red chilli flakes and can I alter it with pepper instead?

Udon Noodle Soup

As a lover of Japanese food, I am always eager to learn how to prepare traditional recipes at home. What I love about this Udon Noodle Soup is just how adaptable it is. The chicken broth can be replaced with vegetable or beef broth and cod can be replaced with prawns, chicken, meat or tofu! You can also add or replace any of the vegetable components to suit you or whatever is in the fridge.  This recipe, however, is by far my favourite combination. The melt-in-the-mouth cod and rich broth create a warming sensation on your taste buds. Whilst the spinach and broccolini add a welcome freshness to liven up the broth and balance the flavours. It is the perfect meal for any day.  Ingredients (serves 2)  For the broth: ·       1 packet of pre boiled udon noodles ·       400 ml chicken/vegetable broth ·       1 medium onion ·       100g spinach...

Fried Liver Served on a Toasted Baguette

Hello! Liver is an extremely underrated cut of meat, many aren't accustomed to it or haven't even tried it at all. However, liver is such a succulent and time saving and cheap cut of meat that I guarantee tastes fantastic. So as they say- don't knock it 'til you try it! For this recipe you will need:  1/2kg liver (I used lamb, but you can use any liver of your choice).  1 onion sliced finely 1/2tsp cumin powder 1/2tsp coriander powder 1 bell pepper  1/2tsp pepper 4tbsp oil Salt to taste Method:  Begin by chopping up your onion into fine slices.  Fry the onions until they are transparent, then add the spices and salt, followed by the liver.  Once the liver has started to brown add the bell peppers, and continue to fry.  Finally, add the pepper and allow it to fry for another 5 minutes. Cooking time for liver is extremely important as you run the risk of it becoming too chewy. Whils...

Blueberry Meringue Cake

Hello everyone, Today's recipe is a beautiful blueberry meringue cake. This cake is one that can be passed off as a dessert and a tea time snack and though it looks complicated it actually takes no time at all! For this recipe you will need:   1 punnet of blueberries 2 eggs 250g sugar  125g butter  75g self raising flour 100 ml milk 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp baking powder  1 tub of double cream Method:  (Preheat oven to gas mark 4) Begin by separating your sugar into two 125g portions. Cream together your butter and one portion of your sugar with an electric mixer.  Next separate your eggs, adding the yolk to your cake mixture and keeping the whites in a clean bowl for later.  Then slowly add the flour, followed by the vanilla, baking powder and milk to loosen the batter. Once you have a creamy cake batter, pour it into a lined sheet cake tray.  Next, whisk together your egg whites...
